Diary of a Croatian larper

There are times when some really crazy and inspiring and notable larp project comes up - this is one of them. The Monitor Celestra is an upcoming Battlestar Galactica larp. In most larping areas of the world that would mean that the game is being played indoors, in an environment which is simulating key areas of the game - starship in this case. Which probably means you'd end up in some basement, or possibly a nuclear shelter if you're lucky. Swedes? They just go and rent a warship. Yes, that's right. A warship. A cold war era destroyer Småland anchored in Gothenburg is where the game is going to be played. Now, that's what I'd call awesome - they also did it in '99 when they rented a submarine for another SF larp. The rest of this larp will also be up to standards - special effects, custom written software, costumes, props, etc. With the participation fee that will be between 2500 and 3000 kr (that's around 300€, give or take a few), this game wi...

Fantasy LARP seems to be the dominant genre in Croatia. For a whole lot of years it was the only LARP style available. A couple of years ago some vampires appeared (Camarilla LARP), although they seem to have gone underground recently (if you're an active Camarilla LARPer in Croatia, or know someone who is, please let me know). Recently though some new initiatives have started: Fallout and Battlestar Galactica LARPs. Maybe they'll kick off a sci-fi LARP scene in Croatia once they get rolling. However that remains to be seen. I'm holding my fingers crossed. The future seems interesting...
